Seeking printer advice from scrapbookers

by Jennifer · 5 comments

I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with paper recently and want to integrate more hybrid and paper projects and pages into my memory keeping. However, I seem to have a printer issue that is getting in the way of making this more possible.

We have a lovely, fast laser printer that we can print to wirelessly from any computer in the house. I spent some time learning how to print to it successfully from Photoshop last weekend (Hint: Save as Photoshop PDF first), but am disappointed in the results. On smooth cardstock, I got reasonably good results with no smudging. On the textured cardstock, the print quality initially appeared fantastic, but then degraded. The toner flaked off like bad mascara. After spending so much time learning the “Save as Photoshop PDF” trick, I was very deflated.

I am assuming this means that I really need to print these types of projects with an inkjet.  (Plus, the laser cannot do borderless printing.) I know for sure I’m not going to print photos at home. I’ll be printing black or colored text on card stock. I have a scanner, so I don’t want it to be multifunction. With that in mind, what kind of printer should I get? Should I get large format to print 12×12 even though most of my projects are 8.5×11 or smaller? I would love any insight you can offer!

The photo above has nothing to do with my post, but it’s prettier than most printers.
